Happy Snow Leopard Day to all of my Mac geek readers. Like you, I’ll be neck deep in it this evening (and probably twittering away about it). If you want some advice on getting ready for the update listen to the Mac Power Users episode 9. If you aren’t in the mood for my dulcet tones, please just remember to backup before pushing the big red button.
I was hoping to be “neck deep” with you, but I was unfortunate enough to buy my copy of Snow Leopard only 30 days ago instead of this week. Yep, those of us that bought “up-to-date” copies had ours shipped via US Postal service and may see the new OS next week. “Thank you Apple.” for creating “second-class” customers.

That stinks. Have you contacted Apple?

I contacted Apple. I was told that I could have pre-ordered (and paid $29) earlier this week if I wanted Fed Ex delivery and that the fine print of the up-to-date program said it would be US Postal and it shipped by the 28th (of course it will arrive next week). In other words, “tough luck.”

Yep, I was in the same boat with the Up To Date program. My copy of Snow Leopard shipped today via USPS and will arrive on or around September 1. For only $30, I went ahead and bought a copy at the Apple Store and will give away my extra to a family member. Good karma and worth it for me to get Snow Leopard early. Though I agree, they could have made it more clear as I would have only ordered the regular version and could have saved the extra $ had I known it was not available release day.

In fact, the information I got earlier in the week was misleading as customer service told me that UTD orders would arrive on the 28th. By the time I knew the truth (late on the 28th) it was too late for me to do anything different (I’m unable to get to a retail outlet that is selling the software). So I will wait…and write a letter to Apple corporate.

I picked up Snow Leopard on Friday afternoon on my way home from work. Installed it on my 24-inch iMac. Have not had any major issues in the last 24 hours os so since I installed it. Istat is not working, and according to their website, they knew that and were working on an update.
I just don’t see what the big deal is. Its just an update to Leopard, it does not live up to the hype that all the press have been giving it for the last two weeks.
I don’t get it, and I think we’ve been scammed somewhat by the media. All the Apple tech media had advance copies and NDA’s preventing them from “commenting”. However, I heard several over the last two weeks give their opinions based “on what they saw on Apples Web site.” They all gave Snow Leopard glowing reviews and made it sound like the best thing since sliced bread. Not one of them said that it was just a sequential update and no big deal. I guess they all want to get their free tablets so they won’t piss off Jobs.
Thankfully someone at Apple realized that this was just a sequential update and only charged $30 for it. If they had tried to charge more, I think there would be a huge outcry.
As Leo Laporte has been saying on the radio today Snow Leopard = Snow Job.

The Letterbox plugin for Mail doesn’t currently appear to work under Snow Leopard and my Mail window looks all wrong without it. Anyone found a fix or good alternative? Looks like WideMail may also have issues under SL.
