To that post I'd add that the Air and the iPad together weigh less than my MacBook Pro, which is now, for all intents and purposes, my desktop machine.
Also, on a coast-to-coast flight, it's great to use the iPad to watch two movies, play some games and STILL have about half a battery left.
Nice! Congratulations on the new rig. I want one too but I want the 11 with 256GB (512 would be even better). We know they'll get there in not too long … but can I wait? Until then, I will trudge along with my old (mid-2009) MacBook Pro, ancient dinosaur that it is.

Oh dear. Be careful David – I have had my maxed-out 11-inch MacBook Air for over a week, and my iPad is now with a colleague.
I have come to the realisation that between my iPhone 4, MacBook Air and 17" MacBook Pro there is no room (or time) left for worrying about trying to make an iOS device fit as a secondary device.
The MacBook Air 11 is a few grams (I'm from Aust…!) heavier than the iPad, but in my mind the iPad is slightly heavy for what it is whereas the MacBook Air 11 is exceptionally light. The tradeoff of a few grams and battery life pales when you consider that you have a secondary machine that is very close to the iPad but has parity in terms of usability with your primary machine.
When you get your new MacBook Air 11, make sure your iPad is out of eyeshot before taking the Air out of its box for the first time. Mine wasn't, and as I held the Air in my hands, I looked over at my iPad and knew I'd be turning it on very infrequently from that point on. Turns out I didn't use it all week, which is why it's been sold.
