Following up on my last Service Sunday post, this service lets you take any image and resize it to 500 pixels wide, convert the image to a JPG file, and lets you rename the file. The perfect treatment before posting to MacSparky.com. Here are the steps:
So do you like this new series? Do you have your own favorite service you’d like to share? Let me know.
Can I share a folder action I made in Automator?
I created a workflow that looks for video files on the desktop, checks for absence of color tags, renamed them with YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS-filename.m4v and adds a green color tag, then moves it into the movies folder. Image capture imports files to the desktop from my flip video camera by default now.
Now that I know this works, I plan to create separate actions for documents and photos on the desktop. This will make sure the desktop remains clear, and I have one less pet peeve to manage when my family members create documents and leave them on the desktop.

Yes – absolutely love the series. Services is one thing I've never really bothered to look into, and these are great inspiration.
I love the Sunday Service. This should make you famous.
I have unsuccessfully tried to automate taking a group of photos -> resize them -> then bounce them all down to a single PDF. Perhaps a challenge you would like to solve for me next week.

Hi David!
Thank you for the Service Sunday series! It's great! Using Automator is so often overlooked in one's everyday tasks. Therefore, it's helpful to see all the great applications you have come up with for it. š

I definitely like this new series. Services don't get enough love, and Automator just has so many options that most people (me included) get quickly overwhelmed and have a hard time coming up with ways to use them.
